Restaurante "Nascer do sol”

Portuguese restaurant with typical Portuguese food, it has lots of people and it’s a little bit noisy.
The food is delicious and the service is fast.
At the first roundabout in Salir do Porto turn left towards Caldas da Rainha, the restaurant is at your right a few meters after the railroad.
There’s no way you can miss it.

Nazaré

Restaurante Joaquim

The food in this restaurant isn’t exclusively Portuguese.
Here you can find delicious fish, meat, pasta and pizza. You can appreciate the beautiful view over the beach of Nazaré.

Taberna D'Adélia

This is a typical Portuguese restaurant where you can taste delicious food, in which lobster and crab.
It isn’t exactly by the sea bust it’s definitely worth it.

A Tasquinha

Small typical Portuguese restaurant with typical mosaics on the walls.
As an appetizer you can order a small glass of Porto’s Wine.
The owner is a very nice man, he’s a teacher during the week and on weekends and holidays he serves at the restaurant. The restaurant is also open during the week, Carlo’s sister keep it working.

Chinese Restaurant Lu Cheng

If you’ve had enough of Portuguese food, we recommend you this Chinese restaurant.
It’s located by the sea.

Casa Pires / A sardinha

This restaurant is well known by its sardines. The cook grills the food outdoors.
Beside the sardines it also serves seafood stews and fish cataplana’s.
It’s located in Sítio, the side of Nazaré that stays in the top of the mountain. It stands on the right side of the church (if you’re looking at the church), on top of Sítio.
The owner is an ex-football player.

This is a Portuguese restaurant with a lot of things on the walls reminding some of the Portuguese traditions and origins.
Its specialty is essentially meat, but it also has codfish served in different ways. Almost everything is cooked in an open grill.
One dish is big enough to 4 big eaters, but don’t forget to leave room for dessert because they are simply delicious.

This is a Portuguese restaurant where you can taste different and delicious kinds of meat, including bull meat.
The food is tasty and it isn’t expensive.
The decoration is allusive to bullfighting arts, an old Portuguese tradition.
It’s better to book in advance.

Surf

Foz do Arelho or Baleal (Peniche) are a real paradise to surf lovers.
There are several surf schools with professional teachers and they also provide all kind of equipment you may need to learn or practice this sport.

Mountainbike

In the surroundings you can make beautiful mountain bike tours.
At our garage are some bikes at your disposal, two of them are professional mountain bikes and we rent it for 15 euros a day or 75 euros a week. Please take good care of them.
You can always ask Mic some tips.
We also organize guided tours along the beautiful mountain trails from 15 km to 55km. The cost for 1 person is 25 euros, for each extra person is 10 euros.

Hiking

It is also a paradise for hiking here.
Do not hesitate to discover the paths around our domain on foot and enjoy the beautiful view over the coast of São Martinho do Porto.

Canoagem

A Flemish couple organizes canoeing trips along Mondego river. You start in Penacova until Coimbra, about 29km distance in between.
It’s a beautiful scenery to who appreciates the contact with nature.

Horse Riding

In Alfeizerão (10 min away by car) you have a professional horse riding school called Ceia.

It is also possible to ride horses on the beach and surroundings for the more experienced riders. Please contact us if you are interested.

Tennis

In Caldas da Rainha you will find one in the park.

3) Places to visit

Alcobaça’s Monastery

The huge monastery in Alcobaça dates back to the 12th century, it’s listed as Unesco’s World Heritage and it’s called St. Mary of Alcobaça Monastery.
D. Pedro and D. Inês, the most beautiful and famous Portuguese love story (like Romeo and Juliet), are buried here.
Their graves are facing each other, as a request of D. Pedro, so that when they meet in the afterlife they would be facing each other.

Battle Monastery

Known as St. Mary of Victory Monastery, was built in gratitude for the Portuguese victory in Aljubarrota’s battle against the Spanish army. It is also Unesco’s World Heritage.

Tomar

This charming medieval town is mostly known by its monuments Convento de Cristo (Convent of Christ) and the Knight Templar Monastery. It’s listed as Unesco’s World Heritage.

Ourém

Here you will find the ruins of Ourém’s castle.

Serra dos Candeeiros

In Serra dos Candeeiros you will find the biggest cave in Portugal with stalactites and stalagmites, the “Grutas de Mira D’Aire” (Mira D’Aire Caves).
It’s called the underground cathedral of Portugal.

Fátima

This is a place for pilgrimage. It is annually visited by 5 million Catholics from all over the world.
Here, Virgin Mary has appeared, in 1917, to three children who were local pastors.

Coimbra

This is a beautiful town with some monuments to see. You can visit:

Quinta das Lágrimas

This is the place where the romance between the future king, D. Pedro, and his maid, Inês, has developed. It was also here where D. Inês was murdered, because of their romance, by three men sent by D. Pedro’s father, the king of Portugal.

University of Coimbra

This is an historical university, the oldest in Portugal with a long university tradition. Here you can visit:

The Joanina Library

It’s one of the richest European libraries, it has about 60.000 books.

S. Miguel Chapel

Stands throughout the chapel the majestic 1733 organ which is still used today.

Medieval prison

It’s now the only existing in Portugal having reached the present day significant parts of its original construction.

Room with pictures of all Portuguese kings

Dates back to the 17th century and today is used in academic ceremonies.

Nazaré

Sítio, the biggest and oldest part of Nazaré, offers a pleasant view over the sea and the lowest part of the town. There’s a nice open square with a wonderful church. From here you can take the train to downtown and the beach.

Óbidos

This is a medieval walled town. As soon as you reach the main gate you’ll be immediately attracted by the nice commercial street. It is possible to climb the walls and walk around the town on top of them. There are advantages and disadvantages: the walk is worth the effort and it’s for free, but there is no railing on the one meter large walls.

Bacalhôa Buddha Eden

This place is a wine estate with beautiful gardens, giant Buddha and Chinese warrior statues and modern Art.

Peniche Fort

Built in 1557 by D. João the third, it had several purposes, since shelter to the South-African refugees to jail to political inmates until 1974 (under Salazar’s dictatorship).

Mafra

The national palace in baroque style is one of the 7 Portuguese wonders. It was built between 1717 and 1730 for the king D. João V. The palace has 1200 rooms and a full area of 40.000m2.

Sintra

It may look distant but in half an hour you’re in the middle of this Portuguese jewel. With its innumerous palaces along the green hills, small commercial streets and big markets, the romantic town of Sintra is a place you absolutely need to see. Here you can visit: Pena Palace with its many colors; National Palace.

Lisbon

The Portuguese capital has many places to visit such as:

Just next to São Martinho you will find Salgado, go enjoy the big waves (pay attention ... absolutely not going into the water).

Next to the beach there are many cafes from which you can enjoy the sea and lagoon. And do not forget the beautiful wooden hiking trails!

Bakery: Café d'Adélia

We have a very nice bakery nearby.
You drive back towards the campsite. The campsite will be at your right and you keep going. 1 km ahead, at your right, there’ll be the bakery. You can only park your car on the right.
Next to the bakery there’s a hair salon.

Marketplace

There’s a local fruit and vegetables market. During the summer opens every day from 8.30 am until 1 pm. In other months it’s closed at Mondays.
You drive towards the bakery and turn left in the next intersection. The market is located +/- 50m on the right.

Supermarket

You may already have met the Intermarché at your arrival.
